Welcome to 5 Aranoni Track, our family's home, the place we are going to always miss.

Set on the lower part of the track above Sumner village, the house looks straight out over the beach, the Esplanade and Scarborough headland to the open ocean. The sun rises over the water and pours through the front of the house. On a clear morning, there are few better places in Christchurch to drink your first coffee.

This was our first home together, and it's where we've raised our young family. What we love most is the balance: you can see the whole of Sumner from the deck, yet the house feels completely private, wrapped in established native planting.

Inside, the layout works as well for a busy family morning as it does for a quiet evening. At the front, the kitchen, dining and living areas flow together in one light-filled space, anchored by the freestanding woodburner we installed and a wall of glass facing the view. A naturally lit hallway leads to the bedrooms and bathroom at the rear, giving a real sense of separation between living and sleeping.

The main bedroom stretches more than six metres, with doors onto the deck, the ocean in view from bed, and room for a home office. Three further bedrooms sit along the hallway, well away from the living areas. The bathroom has a separate bath and shower, and there's a separate toilet and a laundry.

Outside, a large deck runs across the front of the house, and there's a sheltered patio at the back. The big, flat lawn is a rarity on the hill, and it's hosted everything from trampoline sessions and backyard soccer to weekend barbecues and bonfires.

In 2025 we secured space on Nayland Street and built a single garage. It's been a game changer, giving us secure parking, easy access and genuinely great storage. It swallows the lot: bikes, surfboards, snowboards and skis, camping gear and all the beach toys, with room to spare.

The house is reached on foot, via Aranoni Track or the Zig Zag track. It's a big part of what makes it special. There are no cars going past and no traffic noise, just the sound of the sea and the birds. The walk becomes part of your day: down to the village for coffee, to the beach for a swim, and back up again with the garage on Nayland Street, the car is always close by when you need it.

We've looked after the place since we bought it in 2022. We've added full double glazing throughout the main house, new roofing on the north and east sides, a new heat pump in the lounge, a new hot water cylinder, fresh interior and exterior paint, and a new retaining wall at the Aranoni entrance.

The only EQC work required was to the retaining walls. These were rebuilt in 2019 to an engineer's design under building consent, with code compliance issued in 2020. The full EQC claim history and completion documents are available on request.

Our second son has just arrived, and with two little ones in tow we've decided it's time for a home with easier access for this stage of life. Leaving isn't easy. This house has given us so much, and we hope the next owners love it as much as we have.
